Every time I visit a new city, I try to find a place high enough to admite the city from above. Some places can be really different if you see them from a certain height. In Cape Town seems pretty obvious: what place could be better than the mountains surrounding the city? Absolutely true. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the views, but do you know which option is best for you? Here’s four different ways to see Cape Town from above depending on your budget.
Hiking Lion’s Head
In Cape Town there are four major mountains: Devil’s Peak, Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill. The more famous one is, of course, Table Mountain, probably because its shape and size are unique. You won’t find a mountain like this for sure! You can hike Table Mountain but the only problem is that you won’t be able to see Table Mountain itself. That’s why Lion’s Head is the best option. Hiking this mountain is kind of a challenge but you’ll find a lot of people doing it to enjoy the sunrise or the sunset. The best part is that it’s completely free!
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
This cableway starts at the bottom of Table Mountain and it goes all the way up to the top of the mountain. It’s one of the most touristic attractions of the city, so I advice to get your tickets online in advance and you can skip all the queues. Little secret: if you’re going from 1st November to 28th February (except Christmas time), there’s a sunset special half price for 9 euros! To get to the lower station, the best way is Uber because it’s incredibly cheap in South Africa.
Paragliding over Cape Town
Is there something more adventurous than flying over this city? I answer that: there isn’t! The experience of flying can only be explain if you do it yourself, but I assure you that it’s not as scary as it sounds and you’ll always remember it! There are several companies that do paragliding in the city, but I strongly recommend Fly Cape Town Paragliding. You can enjoy a 10 minutes flight with photos and videos for 95 euros. It’s not cheap but if you’re looking for an exciting experience in Cape Town, this is it!
What about an helicopter?
Yes, I know, this sounds really fancy and expensive… And it certainly is. This is not a budget experience but if you’re willing to spend money, this is your choice. You can choose flights over different places in the area: Cape Town city, Cape Peninsula, Winelands, etc. Prices starts in 150 euros per person, check them out here!
